Includes feedback, appropriate forms of interpersonal interaction. See text references on communication style.
Websites such as http://www.ibsteam.net/ offer a wide range
of information on aspects of communication.
But the more direct approach to understanding the forms of communication
would involve ideas such as the following.
"What is the field of communication? Is it enough just to give orders and instructions, or is the field of communication wider? One thought is that communication should be limited to exactly what there is to be communicated and that all else risks blurring the communication. Intuition suggest that communication should first be on a personal level and then on a business level because context is so important in communcation, but much depends on personal style." Edward De Bono, Atlas of Managment Thinking, Penguin Books. The element frequently overlooked is the communication that is done non-verbally - voice, body language, facial expression which conveys another, perhaps contradictory message.
"Communications go awry in many ways
and for many reasons. Some are beyond
our control. But there are others each
of us can affect with modest effort and no risk:
We assume there is no need to talk.
We communicate in one direction: we
"tell" people.
We send mixed messages."
Roger Fisher and Scott Brown, Getting Together, Penguin Books
