Our Claymation, Archimedes was born in Syracuse on the island of Sicily in 287 BC (shot of Sicily) His father was an astronomer, and a good friend of Hiero, King of Syracuse, Sicily., (Here we will switch to a blank screen which will allow us to animate the act of bouancy.) What Archimedes had discovered was this: When an object is immersed or partially submerged in a fluid,it will displace the same volume of fluid as the volume of the object itself via the buoyant force. So, Archimedes was able to find the exact volume of the crown simply by placing it in a tub of water. (Shot of Archimedes putting brick of gold in tub) (Next shot of water displacing in tub), Archimedes and the King's Crown (As a title page...) Once upon a time, there was a man named Archimedes. (Shot of Archimedes), Exasperated from his hard work, Archimedes decided to take a short brake and enjoy a nice bath. (Archimedes walks over to the bath tub and starts to get in.) As he climbed into the bath tub, Archimedes noticed that some of the water had spilt out. (Shot of Archimedes getting in tub and water spilling out.), One day, King Hiero had a crown made for him by a local craftsman using a certain amount of gold. (Shot of King handing the Craftsman a brick of gold) (Shot of King with a smile on his face.) When the King recieved the finished crown, a rumor soon came about that the craftsman had substituted some of the gold for silver. (Shot of King with "oh no" look on his face.), Archimedes was then able to have a pure brick of gold made to match the volume of the water - thus matching the volume of the crown if it was pure gold. (Shot of Archimedes Smiling) If, in fact, the crown was pure gold, it would have the same weight as the brick of gold with identical volume. However, when the crown was put on a scale and measured against the brick of gold, the crown was found to weigh less!!! (Shot of Archimedes weighing the gold and crown) (Shot of Archimedes telling the King the crown is not gold), Archimedes jumped from the tub and ran out of the bathhouse and down the street screaming in Greek, "Eureka, Eureka!" (Translation: "I have found it!") (Animation of above narration) (Here we will switch to a blank screen which will allow us to animate the act of bouancy.), When the King recieved the finished crown, a rumor soon came about that the craftsman had substituted some of the gold for silver. (Shot of King with "oh no" look on his face.) The King, knowing that Archimedes was a brilliant mathematician, gave him the task of finding out if the crown was in fact made from solid gold. (Shot of Archimedes and King talking and looking at the crown), Once upon a time, there was a man named Archimedes.
