The article chosen for discussion this week describes how nurses are continuously challenged to increase their knowledge, in an effort to advance their nursing practice through a variety of information resources (Anonymous, 2004). Reflecting on my own nursing practice, most times obtaining information usually results in reading textbooks or consulting a colleague. In my opinion, theses options are quick resources to gain adequate answers at that present time. As stated in Skiba (2005), more emphasis needs to be placed on evidence based practice and challenging everyday nursing standards by incorporating modern research into our practice. I think the average nurse needs to know how to access research reports and/or journal articles to challenge the mindset of what was originally taught in nursing school. Becoming information literate is the forefront to enhancing the standards of nursing care.
