Health information and information literacy are becoming very important parts of nursing care. As stated by Anonymous (2004), “Information needs will vary according to context and role” (p. 60). As a registered nurse in a clinical setting our information needs are often centered on patient care. Information is often sought quickly, with a focus on reliability (Anonymous, 2004). Over the last year our facility has purchased and implemented the use of electronic tablets which among other things allows nursing and other health professionals increased accessibility to web based literature. Unfortunately as stated by Pravikoff (2005), time is a key barrier when applying research to practice. As health information continues to evolve and expand at record speed, health care facilities as well as individual nurses, need to reevaluate the concept of information literacy (Skiba, 2005). During these changing times nurses, and the facilities they work in, need to make information literacy a priority for the safe and effective care of the patients and clients they support.
