An intriguing and challenging aspect of nursing is that the information for best practice is always changing and expanding. To maintain the expertise of nurses, we must continue to seek out the most updated information and expand our knowledge to continue to offer excellent nursing care. Challenges have been identified were nurses do not always use or have access to the resources that should be available to retrieve the most updated information.  As mentioned in the article by Skiba (2005), “75 percent [of nurses] stated that they did not search CINAHL, but 59 percent reported success in searching the Internet” (p. 310). After reading this article I began to wonder if ‘Google’ is a common source that nurses use to search for information. As nurses, it is essential to continue to expand our knowledge by finding reliable resources that give us access to dependable information. Maintaining a professional competence is imperative in nursing. Nursing competency starts with knowledge and information (Anonymous, 2004).
