When you animate an object you make it move.

PowerPoint's animation tools allow you to set objects on the screen (text boxes and graphics) into motion. There is a whole range of effects that you can create from 'flying in' to 'shrinking and growing.' These effects are called animations.

Even if you use 'still' photographs throughout a presentation, animations can create the effect of a movie.
